Tags: Homeschool Thoughts, Summer
We school year-round although Summer is a bit tweaked and “lighter.” And I like to have August off for planning, Doo’s birthday, and just because a month off sounds lovely. So as we wind up the traditional year, I am mulling over what we will do this Summer.
We will finish up Doo’s Handwriting workbook and then take a break from anything formal until the Fall which is when we will start copywork.
We will also continue with math although maybe just twice a week.
We will be done with her bird, artist, religion, and composer studies for the year but we will still have several lessons left for prehistory. In fact, I may double up on them during Summer so that we are finished by the end of July. We still have a lot left in First Language Lessons because I have been so laid back about it, which is fine, so we’ll continue with those lessons as well. And I will be adding a unit study for our home state, California. I thought this unit study would just be for the Summer but it might be worth stretching out into first grade as an occasional lesson. I don’t want to rush through it.
Probably the two most exciting new additions to to our homeschool life, starting in just a week, are that we are adding Spanish lessons (the original plan was to wait for the Fall but with the awesome Discovery Streaming deal going on right now I didn’t want to wait until September for our subscription) and circus classes! Several kids at our Tuesday co-op take them and they are so flexible and talented. Doo is very excited for these. Unfortunately, we will probably only be able to take them during the Summer due to a change in schedule this Fall but it will still be fun for a few months.
OK, feels good to have spewed out our Summer plans here. Feel a tad more organized. And I’m not sure if “lighter” is actually a good description but that’s OK because we have so much fun during lessons that Doo often complains when we have a vacation from them, heh.
